Right so this is a discussion we have a lot in the family here (meaning me and my mum).

The dutch government does not obay to its own contitution.
The most obvious example is that state and religion are not seperate here while our laws say it should be, the CDA (Christian Democratic Party) and the CU (Christian Union) are even so brutal to mention it in their names and yell it out loud that they dont like certain policies because of their believes.
I for one think that our whole politic system has therefore no right to exist in this country and should be disbanded asap to make place for a system that does obay our laws.

Another example of our government not obaying its own law is the afghanistan war, it now seems that our ministeries had no right at all to invade at that time, it was even illegal. Our prime minister (harry potter) keeps covering it up and makes investigations impossible.

Is your government true to its own laws? or dont you mind that a unrightfull political system rules you and your fellow citizens? what do you think of the situation in the netherlands?
Discuss.

Currently doing about the british / american constitutions in Government and politics, will see if any of my studies have relevence Very Happy

on the topic of the British constitution...

its alright, but the problem is that its not a codified constitution which means the govenment pretty much shit on it...putting it briefly.
A codified constitution is one that is written down on document or all in one easy to access place (the american one for example)

an un-codified constitution arguably do not exist, parts of it are written but there is no single specific document which leads to them being 'Basic laws'

you look at the american constitution (The right to bear arms for example) its bloody hard to remove, there is no way america will ever abolish that law in the future due to all the legalities involved with it (cba to explain all this) but pretty much, any law that gets put into a constitution cannot be REWRITTEN but it can be REDEFINED

for example: the american constitutional law to commit (I think it was) humane executions for prisoners, this contradicts a part in the constitution where it mentions 'do not harm your fellow man' (something along those lines) but back then black americans were not classified as men and so people used that as a loophole.
Since this was entrenched into the constitution it instead had to be REDEFINED to black americans being classified as men

Personally i think England should have a codified constitution as the American one is quite frankly rubbish because of the Right to bear arms law not being able to keep up with society, this is where the German constitution is better than the american one since the German one was made -after- and learned from the mistakes made by the american constitution

We've got the Moderterna, Socialdemokraterna, Kristdemokraterna(The Christians), Piratedemokraterna(The ones that wants to make download legal), Kalle Anka partiet (Don't know if they exist (Kalle Anka = Donald Duck) and last but not the least, the Sverige demokraterna/National demokraterna (The ones that wants to get rid of the "immigrants")

Dunno why I posted this, just wanted to tell some worthless information.

No we have another, the SGP. Which is a small but extremely fundamentalist christian party. (Example: They are against women voting and equal rights for gay people) It currently holds 2 of the 150 seats and has done so for ages.

Also another violation of the constitution: A dutch MP is being prosecuted for insulting the islam. He compared some aspect of the islam to some aspects of the nazi's. That his prosecutors have compared the MP with nazi ministers, called him a mini-Hitler and his voters nazi's is of course allowed.

And we also have: Socialist Party (SP) , Party of Labor (PvdA), Democratic 66 (D66), Greenleft, VVD, Party for Freedom (PVV) and then about 30 extremely small parties that don't hold any seats in parliament or are to small and dont stand out.

Oh on a small note, SP won the last election with a large amount of votes and decided not to join any coalition.

SP didn't have a choice, they were blocked by the CDA. (And most likely the PvdA as well since the SP took many of their voters)
Good tactical move though, that cost the SP a lot of voters since most people believe the crap about the SP not taking responsibility now. Even though we've done so for the past several in local politics. Unfortunately the same thing happened at the provincial elections.

If there is one constitution that can be called a failure it's the American one, I can think of only 2 amendments that are actually still being used. The rest is ignored by the majority of the politicians.

Well call me a patriot, but as far as i'm aware Britain's pretty good on the topic, or atleast they're not noticeably bad.

On another note, I hate it we pay millions of euros to our royal family while they have about 1 billion of their own money to live from, don't forget that money is tax payers money, we pay for them.
Its not really 21st century if you ask me.

A bit old-fashioned, but they still earn us more money then they cost us. And not all of their capital is spendable money, most of those billions consist of palaces.
