Third Phase: Form of government

After Indar's post about monarchy I realized that perhaps we should prepare some ideas for the form of government in the Third Phase. Now it's obvious which sort of ranks there will be in the top of the hierarchy, but a lot of their responsibilities and form can change depending on our form of government.

To start with some simple ideas:

Monarchy/Kingdom:
The king has the last word, but can be advised by elected councillors.

Republic:
The nation is led by a small elite, possibly elected.

Democracy:
Councillors are elected by the people and owe responsibility to them.

Village/Alternative Kingdom:
The mayor has the last word, but can be advised by the village elders.



On councillors:
Councillors can be elected, but another idea would be to have several unions in Westbrook with the union leader being the councillor for his subject. (Example: Warrior's Union leader -> Military Councillor. Magical Union leader -> Magical Councillor. Crafter's Union leader -> Economic Councillor etc.)

Commonwealth:
For the people by the people, looks a lot like the american system of democracy but the purpose is to distribute the resources of the nation as good as possible in a capitalistic way.

How about communism?

A democratic commonwealth could be possible, would require elected councillors. (No taxation without representation)

Early Soviet Socialism/Primitive Communism


If indeed our guild is so tightly-knit that we can trust everyone completely, then a complete abolishment of rights of ownership could be implemented. Therefore, all incomes and resources could be made public - i.e. the village fisherman and village cook would work together to produce food, the village miners and blacksmiths would make weapons and armour, the village alchemist could make potions. All these resources would become public according to need only, and the limiting factor to how many would be given per person would be the total amount of resource available divided by the people using it (i.e. pure crafters would have no use for weapons and armour). We would also establish a reserve fund of all these resources, a cut of every week's income (say 10%) donated automatically to the bank in case of a disaster. For the first few weeks, this cut should be larger so as to build up the resources of the bank, but after time, it would decrease to a stable, low amount.

Employing Primitive Communism would not require a leader, but the positioned described by Dagren - such as civil leader, military leader, economic leader. These will not have control over the nation, as such, but will organize how the structure is planned out, so the guild has a
plentiful supply of everything.

This will eliminate a large gap between the poor and the rich and will create a wealthy society, able to trade in a wide variety of items.

But seriously there SHOULD be corruption, or at least people should accuse the rulers of corruption, else it won't look realistic

I'm quite intrueged in Lokk's idea, but I think we should adept the old-Roman style. Thus the republic, and not the Empire it became afterwards.

A quick view on what I mean:
The Senate, people whom are elected (Form of Democracy). For each 'thing' is a Senator, a council member. (Military, Economics, Trading, Foreign stuff, Civil, ect..)

I'd vote for a Republic, for a Democracy wouldn't work in game (same for communism, I'm afraid).

I agree , and at some point of time, there should be a pedofile evil senator who overthrows the republic and becomes the ruler of a new empire with a guy in shiny black plastic as his right hand... I wonder how that would end O.o

Not yet, this is a decision we'll take at the end of phase 2. This is just for brainstorming.

And how surprising it would be if the person who did that was actually the son of the guy in the black suit... hey we could make a movie about this!
